To launch their Summer Term Project, Year 5 visited different parts of Great Yarmouth, to look for the ‘treasures’ that Great Yarmouth contains. Our first stop was at the Venetian Waterways, where a historian met us and explained the history of the Waterways to them. We continued along the seafront, using various landmarks to answer questions in our ‘treasure hunt’ quiz, such as ‘Who sponsors the Scroby Sands Wind Farm Visitor Centre? (EON). Finally the treasure hunt took us along Regent Road and into St. George’s Park.
The children learnt a lot about Great Yarmouth, with some of them discovering that the Waterways used to have boats with the heads of various animals. When visiting St. George’s Park, they found that the War Memorial has writing on it and celebrates the lives of those who died in the two World Wars.
